Use the camera’s viewfinder to check that what to shoot is actually in the field of view or your snap will be useless.

You do not want to have a camera that leak when you go underwater, so before you go diving, see that the cover is water proof by holding it under the surface for a few seconds or so. Particularly check the seal to make certain that any grain of sand or even a stray thread hasn’t broken the water sael. Silica gel packs can be usefull if you are able to fit them inside the camera cover, as they will attract any condensation that might cause difficulties.
