Owing to the constant problems faced by underwater cameras, there aren?t enough manufacturers who are willing to spend time developing something that has to overcome the problem of water and electronics combined with pressure. Some of you may have seen or tried the cheap solution to this problem that comes in the form of a plastic casing. This type of casing will turn your conventional digital camera into an underwater digital camera.

If it is your aim to take some underwater images then there is some advice I can give you to improve the quality of the images.

Remember that as you farther down you go underwater, the more the light diffuses. This means that your underwater digital camera will produce images darker than those images you took while on land so to avoid this, use white balance adjustment to help with natural colors. Also, pictures taken underwater will come up larger than pictures taken on land with the same zoom effect. You will have to pay more attention using the viewfinder to make sure you are achieving the shot you want.

It is a good idea to make sure that the camera won?t leak whilst you are diving so just hold it under the water for a few seconds to be on the safe side. which will allow water to access the case so look for this as well. If you a couple of silica gel packs then these can be placed in the case but make sure they do not obstruct the lens or camera controls.

Most underwater digital cameras come with optional lenses so don?t be afraid to add these lenses to your underwater digital camera kit. It is possible to get really close to some subject for great close-up shots using a macro lens.

Make sure when you re-surface that you rinse off the camera full to make sure all the salt water is washed off the camera as crystals of salt can break the camera seals. In particular where sand is present then a stream of water to rinse it off is best.
