I for one would love to have a proper underwater digital camera but this is not likely to happen and I really don?t go into the sea often enough to make it worthwhile.

You see, water pressure is the real problem for these cameras as well as water leaks Manufacturers have found it is easier just design a watertight case that goes around the digital camera instead. As a make-do, it woks quite well; converting an ordinary digital camera into an underwater camera.

If you are shooting with your underwater digital camera, you need to take note of a few things to help you come up with the best underwater images.

Water diffuses the light and the farther down you go the more this diffusion occurs. The result of this is a darkening of the captured image so adjustments to the white balance are needed. You will also notice when you see the pictures taken underwater that they appear larger than they should; this is part of the magnifying effect water has. Many novices make the mistake of not checking the viewfinder carefully to make sure they are going to take a picture containing exactly what they want in the final shot.

It is not uncommon for waterproof case to spring a leak so before you go on your dive, check that the camera I still watertight by submerging it for a couple of seconds. Even a silly thing like a strand of hair can break the seal so check carefully before submerging. It is also advisable to put a silica gel pack or two inside the case of your underwater digital camera as long as they don?t disturb the camera?s operation.

Don?t be afraid to experiment with your underwater digital camera by adding other lenses that may come with it. Macro lenses will help you capture small things without getting too close and startling your subject.

Also, remember to always wash of salt when you?ve used it under salt water because if the salts are not washed off, in time they will crystallize; and cause leaks in your camera case. The best way to rinse of an underwater digital camera where grains of sand are present in particular is with a flow of clean water.

It is usually the better digital camera manufacturers that will manufacture the more specialized products like Nikon, Canon and Sony
